A Better Detackifier
Two of the industry's most frequently used paint detackifiers are based on either melamine-
formaldehyde or an acrylic acid. Melamine-
formaldehyde based detackifiers contain small amounts of residual-free formaldehyde and are derived from nonrenewable natural gas reserves. The acrylic acid-based group of paint denaturants is derived from ethylene and/or propylene produced during the petroleum cracking process and therefore relies on nonrenewable petroleum-based feedstocks. AET Tests Energy-Saving Marine Vessel Coating
An AET tanker Global tanker owner-operator AET has entered into a partnership with Nippon Paint to trial the manufacturer's latest low-friction (LF), anti-fouling (AF) coating on AET vessels. The innovative LF-Sea AF Paint is expected to reduce fuel consumption by 4%, resulting in lower CO2, SOx and NOx emissions, thus helping AET fulfil its environmental responsibilities in line with ISO 14000.

Wagner Demonstrates Capabilities at Open House
An open house attendee gets a firsthand look at Wagner's technology Wagner Industrial Solutions held an open house on May 14 at its facilities in Elgin, IL. DuBois Participates in Environmental Partnership Summit
DuBois Chemicals is participating in the National Environmental Partnership Summit, held May 19-22, 2008 in Baltimore, MD, at the Sheraton Baltimore City Center Hotel. Exousia Granted Import Approval from China
Exousia Advanced Materials, Inc. has passed its Importation Tests with the National Commodity Testing Bureau of China, which permits the company to ship high-performance industrial coatings from its AEGEON Plant in Texas into the People's Republic of China. The approval will allow Exousia to begin fulfilling product orders and commitments to its Northern China Territory Distributor, Northern International Group (NIG), as well as other customers and distributors.

BASF Coatings Launches New Production Site in Russia
Semen Belyakov (left), head of BASF Coatings in Russia, and Juan Ximenez-Carrillo (right), head of OEM Coatings Solutions, BASF Coatings Europe in Moscow BASF Coatings has started up its new production site for paints in Russia. The new facility at Pavlovski Posad, 60 kilometers east of Moscow, has an annual production capacity of 6,000 metric tons of paints (basecoats and clearcoats). The new site will supply customers in the burgeoning Russian automotive market with high-quality coatings.

Soliant has begun offering precision clean-room laminating services with its new custom roll stock lamination equipment. The company reportedly developed the technology with in-house resources after failing to find suitable equipment to laminate its Class A decorative paintfilms and bright films.

PPG Supports China's Earthquake Recovery Efforts
PPG Asia/Pacific is donating RMB 500,000 through the Red Cross Society of China to help purchase emergency equipment for the earthquake-ravaged Sichuan region. In addition, thousands of employees from PPG Asia/Pacific plants, trading companies, offices, labs and joint ventures are donating to a special account the company created to support earthquake relief.

RadTech UV&EB Conference Hosted "Terrific Turnout"
With more than 2,200 in attendance, the May 4-7 RadTech 2008 Conference in Chicago highlighted the energy and environmental benefits of using "electron beam" (EB) and "ultraviolet energy" (UV) industrial technologies. According to Petra L'Abbe of PPG and president of RadTech, the event saw a "terrific turnout," despite growing economic concerns.
