Low-Temp E-Coat
For decades, cathodic epoxy electrocoat primers have been a major tool in preventing the corrosion of metal surfaces. The combination of modern e-coat paint formulations and application equipment provides an efficient, environmentally friendly, cost-effective coating solution for many applications. E-coat is widely recognized as one of the most efficient coating processes. However, in today's ultra-competitive environment, the quest for improved efficiencies is relentless. Recent increases in energy costs, the desire to process more parts through the same system, and concerns for the environment have led to an interest in electrocoat materials with lower cure temperatures. Fortunately, new developments are meeting the market demand for a lower-temperature cure with a high-performance cathodic epoxy electrocoat finish...

Ask Joe Powder

"We are experiencing a problem with powder coating coverage on the inside corners of a light reflector with a depth of about 6 in., similar to the inside of a bowl. We have tried applying two to three coats but have had little success getting coverage where the application blades meet the inside reflector walls. Would the gun design play a role in this area, if the gun nozzle were mounted on an extended arm to enable the gun to reach deeper inside the cavity of each section? Also, what size powder do you recommend?"

F-16s Benefit from Fast-Drying, Lightweight Coating
An F-16 jet flown by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds air demonstration squadronF-16 jets flown by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds are being painted with a smooth, fast-drying primer and high-gloss, lightweight, advanced-performance coating (APC) topcoat by PPG Industries' aerospace business. The smooth application properties of the primer leave the surface ready for the topcoat without sanding or other preparatory work. The topcoat reportedly has superior weathering resistance and cleanability that retain gloss and color far longer than previous coatings systems, extending the time before repainting is needed.
