Renewable" Ceramic Coating Holds Promise for Jet
Engines
 Ohio State
University engineers are
developing a technology to coat jet engine turbine blades with
zirconium dioxide - commonly called zirconia (synthetic diamonds)
- to combat high-temperature corrosion. The zirconia chemically
converts sand and other corrosive particles that build up on the
blade into a new, protective outer coating. In effect, the
surface of the engine blade constantly renews itself.

Dürr to Expand BMW's South Carolina Paint
Shop
The Dürr
Group has received a major order from the BMW Group for its U.S.
plant in Spartanburg, SC, worth more than ?100 million. As
announced
previously , BMW's production
capacity at the plant will be increased from 160,000 to 240,000
units by 2012. The required expansion of the paint shop will be
realized largely by Dürr.

500°F, electrically-heated universal oven from Grieve, used
for various paint curing operations. Workspace dimensions of this
oven measure 36"W x 36"D x 48"H. Power is provided by 9 kW
installed in Nichrome wire heating elements, and a 600 cfm,
1/2-hp recirculating blower provides horizontal front-to-rear
airflow.
