Freudenberg Licenses Plasma Coating Technology
Dow Corning's Plasma Solutions group has licensed its atmospheric pressure plasma liquid deposition (APPLD) technology for commercial coating on one of its SE-1000 AP4 systems to Weinheim, Germany-based Freudenberg Forschungsdienste KG. The APPLD technology allows users to engineer the surface of virtually any substrate by applying extremely thin coatings of various materials
that chemically bond to the underlying substrate. Coatings can have a wide range of characteristics, such as waterproofing, low-friction slickness, adhesion promotion or antimicrobial properties.

Coating Improves Appearance of Returnable Glass Bottles
Under a recently signed agreement, Arkema will provide SABMiller with glass coating products and technology designed to protect and improve the appearance of SABMiller’s reusable glass bottles. The technology is based on Tegoglas® 3000+, an anti-scuff coating that delays the appearance of scuffing and protects the strength of a returnable glass bottle, therefore significantly extending the life of the bottles.

ASTM Committee Approves New Traffic Coating Standards
While a variety of ASTM International standards currently exist for the testing of thermoplastic pavement marking materials, there has been a need to develop practices that address both the proper sampling methods and the correct way to prepare a sample prior to testing. Two recently approved ASTM standards — D 7307, Practice for Sampling of Thermoplastic Marking Materials, and D 7308, Practice for Sample Preparation of Thermoplastic Traffic Marking Materials — aim to meet these needs.
