An Explosive Explanation
“In ‘Modern Metallics’ (April 2007), the authors note, ‘Bonded powder coatings mitigate the concerns some people have regarding the safe handling of aluminum containing metallic powders. The bonding process coats much of the aluminum with a significant amount of the base powder, essentially rendering the aluminum inert.’ I understand the point being made here, but a rookie to the field might falsely assume that base powder has no explosion potential…”

Boeing Qualifies High-Solids Exterior Epoxy Primer
Boeing has qualified a new-generation, high-solids, low-volatile organic compound (VOC) exterior epoxy aerospace primer from PPG Aerospace - PRC-DeSoto. The primer, Desoprime HS CA7700, reportedly exhibits superior adhesion, flexibility and rain-erosion resistance, according to PPG coatings officials.

Hexion Specialty Chemicals, headquartered in Columbus, OH, has won the bidding for chemical-maker Huntsman Corp., Salt Lake City, UT, beating Basell AF. The all-cash transaction is valued at approximately $10.6 billion, including the assumption of debt.
